What is ketosis

According to WebMD, ketosis occurs when your body doesn’t have enough glucose for energy, so it burns fat instead. This results in ketones—chemicals that are made when your body burns fat for energy—being produced by your liver. 

This can occur naturally or be induced by eating a very low-carb diet (also known as Atkins or Ketogenic diets). When you’re in ketosis, your body is using up stored fat for energy rather than burning glucose from carbs. 

Since there’s no sugar to convert into energy, you can go longer without food than usual before experiencing symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
